Kingdom Death – Super Savior

In September a local miniature painting group ran a painting contest which gave me a great opportunity to step away from Infinity for a bit and try my hand at constructing and painting a display base and miniature. For the contest I painted a “Super Savior,” one of the excellent minis from Kingdom Death.  Since my Kingdom Death resin pile has gotten fairly large, I figured it was about time I actually tried painting, and finishing, one of their models. I have a love-affair with their miniatures from the theme to the sculpts, although I acknowledge they aren’t to everyone’s taste. Anyway, I think I did a pretty good job (even though I consider it about 80% complete) and I walked away with two amazing plinths and some excellent tips.

I plan to write up a post on the design, construction, and painting of the base and miniature, but for now, photos as it was presented for the contest are located after the break.

Enjoy!

Been too long…

It’s nearly been 10 months, but I have returned to the tabletop. I haven’t accomplished much in the way of hobby gaming lately, but the break was for the worthy cause of marrying Heidi this past April. The party was successful so that means life has calmed down and our apartment has cleaned up enough to get back into painting tiny things. Now, don’t think everything was put on hold during the wedding planning; I was able to purchase and assemble models from various games (Infinity, Malifaux, Super Dungeon Explore, and more…) which makes my backlog even more monstrous. Anyway, that just means I have to work on those before I can pick up anything else. Hahaha, just kidding, have you seen the new Morat Vanguard support weapon pack or the Tohaa Clipsos sniper? Have you read rumors from the Corvus Belli FicZone event, including details of Infinity 3rd Edition? Have you heard that the resculpted Morat Suryat with combi and the Tohaa Nikaul sniper will supposedly hit shelves in July?? Yeah. I’m going to be busy for a while with all those things.

Infinity – Underground Lasers ITS, Round 3

This past Saturday, August 17th, I got to participate in an Infinity Tournament System (ITS) event sponsored by Underground Lasers and held at one of my local game stores, Gamer’s Gambit. I previously discussed the first round here, and the second round here. Here I’m going to discuss the third, and final, round of the tournament. The scenario was Emergency Transmission, and my foe was the Yu Jing empire.

The Future of Morats

Corvis Belli announced at GenCon 2013 that the Morat Aggression Force will get their starter box sometime this year! They also announced the contents of the box: 3 resculpted Vanguards, a Raktorak, an Oznat, and a feurbach Sogarat! I’m going to have to buy 2 of those boxes right away. Not only did they reveal the concept art of the Vanguard resculpts, Oznat, and Raktorak, but they also showed the 3d sculpts of the Vanguard! I’m very excited about this development, and after playing my Morats at the Underground Lasers ITS, I find myself excited about this army again. There are photos from the Infinity seminar from GenCon 2013 here, and there’s a recording of the whole seminar on YouTube here. Did I mention that most of the Morat’s weapons have been resculpted as well? Well they are, and they look fantastic!

Corvis Belli also announced their new Dire Foes line, which will be a series of 3 model boxes containing 2 opposing Spec-Ops characters, a civilian, and a special scenario. Finally, we’ll have civilians! The new Spec-Ops characters will have their own profiles and can also be used as a proxy like the existing Spec-Ops models. The new Treitak is a female Morat named Anyat. She carries a combi-rifle with special K1 ammo that causes your target’s armor to drop to 0. Awesome. Now that’s a Morat “hacker”!

I also love the new Morat color scheme, and I’m going to be adopting it for my existing Morat force. It likely won’t be identical to the stock scheme, but I got enough ideas from looking at the concept art that I stripped down my Autocannon Kurgat, Treitak, and Combi Rasyat. I’m planning on painting these up as tests, and then I’ll list the new color scheme if it works out.

Infinity – Underground Lasers ITS, Round 2

This past Saturday, August 17th, I got to participate in an Infinity Tournament System (ITS) event sponsored by Underground Lasers and held at one of my local game stores, Gamer’s Gambit. I discussed the first round of the tournament previously, and now I’m going to move on to the second round: the illustrious Morat Supremacy against those dirty space gypsies, the Nomads.

Infinity – Underground Lasers ITS, Round 1

This past Saturday, August 17th, I got to participate in an Infinity Tournament System (ITS) event sponsored by Underground Lasers and held at one of my local game stores, Gamer’s Gambit. I brought along my Morats, and I have to say that I had a blast with them! My overall goal was to do better than I did at the last ITS event I attended at GenCon 2012. I placed dead last that day. DFL! Well, it was a learning experience, and this time I placed 8th out of 12. Not bad for only getting to play once a month, if even that much. I really have to play more, and this tournament (combined with great announcements by Corvus Belli at GenCon 2013) really gave me the Infinity bug all over again. Not that I was getting burned out on the game, but sometimes I get absorbed in the fluff, art, and models that I forget there’s a great, cinematic skirmish game underneath. Anyway, the tournament was great; my game improved, I had fun, and learned a lot!

Infinity: Raicho

I’m taking a short break from painting a lot of blue Merovingians, so I’m going back to my Morats, at least for the Raicho. I’ve actually finished a few more Merovingians since the last time I posted, but I’ll address those later on. I’ve made some decent progress on my Raicho over the past few days, and I think the giant Morat TAG is starting to come together.

Infinity: Paracommando

I’m just about finished with Duroc and Margot, but I’ve also made some good progress on another Merovingian starter box soldier: the Paracommando. This guy carries a heavy machine gun and can come in from nearly any table edge you want. He’s great for flanking and generally looks bad ass with his machine gun. His arms are bare, so I decided to give him some tattoos to practice freehand details. I followed this tutorial, and I think they turned out pretty well! The tattoos took about 2 hours to paint, including time to cover up the first tattoo attempt. My first attempt was an eagle’s claw, and I covered that up with the heart, which looks much, much better. The heart says “Mère”, which, according to my Google research, is “Mother” in French.

Photos after the break.

Infinity: Duroc, part 2

Duroc, part 2! I really enjoy painting this miniature and that shows in the progress I’ve made tonight. I’ve completed (for the most part) Duroc’s skin, face, eyes, and hair. I’ve also put a base coat on his weapons. Pictures follow the break!

Infinity: Duroc WIP

Yesterday I had Margot, and today I have her big-bad wolf companion, Duroc! He’s a parachuting werewolf with twin chain rifles and a big machete. So far I’ve given his vest, shorts, skin, and backpack base coats to various degrees, and shaded his skin. I’m using a different paint scheme than the studio, making his vest and shorts the same colors as the Metro’s jacket and pants, and changing the color of his fur.
